Is there a Right Time for a Round-the-World Trip?

The right time? Now!

Many of you may ask themselves when the time would be right for a trip around the world. To answer that question beforehand: there is no right time. But I’m sure you thought so anyway, right?

Actually there is no right time for anything in life. In general, I’m rather a person who sometimes just does. One year ago I bought myself a brand-new car for my birthday. Buying a new car basically is kind of a bad idea – as soon as the gem is on the street it’s only worth half of the original price. I knew that, but I didn’t care. I wanted to have that wonderful car. I had a regular salary. I had no other dreams I wanted to come true. So I just bought the car.

When I quit my job I thought about that decision a bit longer of course. I just bought that car and I had no prospective jobs. Was it really a good time to quit? At that time I often saw a billboard advertisement of a big mobile network saying „Today is a good day to quit“. I transfered that to my job and took it as a sign I couldn’t ignore. Quitting without a new job as well is – at least for most people – kind of a bad idea. But I didn’t care for that as well. I wanted to do something different than sitting at my office desk all day getting spinal and back disorder. I had saved money. I had no other dreams I wanted to come true – I already had the car. So I just did it – I quit without having a new job.

At that point the idea of making a trip around the world already existed in the back of my head and grew steadily. I then didn’t ask myself about the right time for such a journey when Patrick and I started talking about it concretely. I had already done the first step in the right direction by quitting my job. I had no debts. I have a boyfriend with the same idea I had for quite a time. I had saved money. I’m definitely not rich but I want to invest the money I have into a dream. My dream. I want to see the world. So I’m doing it.

I already said at the beginning that there is no right time for anything. Much more important are the right surrounding conditions. If you don’t have the money, start saving it. If you saved enough money, ged rid of things you don’t need. That way you become independent. And than there is no feasible reason that prevents you from traveling. Least the time.
